The Time Has Come...My High School 10 Year Reunion...

Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion (1997)

If only I could tell people that I invented "Post-It's". I love that movie! Well it's that time where I got my first letter explaining that my 10 year High school reunion was coming up. Oh boy...

2003 was the days right before texting was as involuntary as breathing, there was still a payphone by the girl's bathroom, and I didn't even have a cellphone. My hair was a frizzy mess, I didn't have a boyfriend, yet I had track medals, captain of the cheerleading squad, and #20 out of #160 kids academically under my belt. Don't be fooled by my saying I was the captain of the cheer leading squad and think I was the most popular girl in school because I was far from it.  High school was horrible and I remember crying my eyes out all through the blistering hot graduation day that June. A teacher came over to me and put his hand on my shoulder to console and he said, "Aww Chloe, Don't worry, it's going to be okay. Don't be sad it's over." I looked up at him and smiled and said, "I'm crying because I got out! I'm happy that it's finally over." He gave me an odd look and sternly nodded in this deep understanding that I think he knew all to well the truth of my statement.

My Senior High School Picture, 2003

So now fast forward 10 years... Alright, there is a lil box saying RSVP or Not & then a comment section on my pre-invitation. I went to put my pen to RSVP  box and I froze.  Do I really want to go???  Do I want to see the prom queen I wasn't friends with? Do I wanna see the cliches come back together to gossip in corners about that beer belly or the wrong paths people took? Do I wanna see the friends who promised to call after high school and never did? Do I want to put on that fake smile to the bitches that I didn't like then and I know won't like now? Do I wanna see the people who added me on Facebook and NEVER likes my statuses or comment on anything?

I'll admit that the ONLY reason why I would go to my Reunion was to find out the dirt that has happened in 10 years, but Facebook has done that nicely so Really Why Go???

From Facebook I learned:

The Prom Queen just had a baby...

So and So Stephanie is in Arizona, I guess good for her??

My Prom Date who followed me around for 3 years of high school whom I couldn't figure out why he never asked me out, has actually come out and is living happily with his boyfriend....

So and So Athena has 3 kids...Divorced.

So and So Katie has 3 kids...Divorced.

Ashley has 4 kids...Not Married, her relationship status is "It's Complicated."

Once so & so Jackie stopped running for track she gained a 100 pounds and you can totally tell...

And EVERYONE has a dog or cat or a flying squirrel or some type of pet from the plethora of pictures!

The "Hunk" of the class is engaged and um struggling qualifying for a mortgage....Yeah people have no idea what "Too Much Infomation" means...

Etc...

Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion (1997)

I'm torn. To go or not to go?

DID YOU GO TO YOUR HIGH SCHOOL REUNION?

Also, is it even worth still going even though you have a Facebook?

I'd love to hear...

  1. facebook really is a high school reunion - too funny! I love finding out who is gay, married, has kids, whatever. it's interesting. but I'd rather not talk to them in person. I didn't go to my 10 year. In another 3 years it'll be my 20th!

  2. My husband just had his and I wanted to go so bad but he was so against it! He felt the same way! Totes know what you mean about FB and TMI! Lol, some people. Thanks for the lovely comment on Jackies blog today. I love my little Lola.

  3. This is cracking me up!!! I was still bitter at the 10 year mark but I have to say that Facebook has helped kind of smooth things over (I think the whole TMI makes us realize that everyone is human). At this point (20 plus years) we're all too old to give a crap, lol, and we all kind of fondly support each other even if it's from a distance.

PS- what a pretty senior pic!!!

  4. I loved this. YOu're the wittiest writer! I have connected with most of my former classmates through FB but have never went to the reunions since I live quite a distance away from where I grew up. It is so neat though seeing what became of everyone and how everyone has changed.

  5. You're are such a great writer! I am totally cracking up! I actually didn't go to my reunion cos ehh.. HS wasn't such a great period for me either. And I didn't have anyone close to whom I wanted to share my life updates with. But I did hear updates about it and heard that it was great for those who went :)

  6. haha this is hilarious. is there anyone in high school you keep in touch with on a regular basis? if so, i would drop by the reunion with them. if not, i would go anyway just to see people. while facebook may tell their story in pictures (and explicit statuses), perhaps it's not a true version of what's really going on, kwim?

i went to my high school reunion only to realize that i knew no one. back then, i didn't hang out in my high school; the majority of my friends were at a catholic high school about 6miles out and i'd go there during my lunches or spares. it was nice to see everyone though and the only people who seemed to remember me were the teachers LOL

  7. Woah, a lot has happened with you and people you knew since high school! It's crazy how everything can change within just 10 years. I'm definitely not going to my high school reunion haha, but you might have a really good time!

  10. I also graduated in 2003 (can't believe it has been 10 years!!!), so mine is upon me as well!! I wish that I had advice to give but I'm still trying to decide. I don't have facebook so I don't know about everyone's status lol, but I do know that everyone that I enjoyed spending time with is still in my life. That being said, I have been able to live the last 10 years of my life not knowing anything about these people and have been just fine with the memories.

Actually after typing that last bit...I think that just helped me decide.
Best of luck to you on making a decision!!

  11. ohhh my gosh i was SO obssesed with that movie when i was little hahah i kinda wanna do a rerun night tonight! I had my 5 year reunion a few months back and i had absolutely no want to go. i feel like those things would just be an exhausting 4 hours of trying to brag and out-do each other. or if you're not the type, *you'd* be the one having to endure that. i thought it'd just be stressful and i didnt want to compare myself to anyone lol.

  12. I didn't go to my high school reunion because I had another engagement but I probably wouldn't have anyway. Facebook really does a good job of facilitating any relationships I still want to maintain now and what is up with the TMI? I guess it's just not people I know.

Wong Kar Wai's 2046 is one of my fave films as well. The costumes and cinematography alone are worth watching for.
