Oh French Macrons...You are absolutely my favorite thing. But living in a small county outside of Manhattan, it's a lil hard to get them every day unless I take a train or spend $10 or more just to get over the George Washington Bridge. There is one mini bakery in Nyack, NY where the brave chef makes these delicate things every weekend. However, because I think he is the only one, it is nearly impossible to get one unless you are on line bright and early at 8am sharp on a Saturday. Well, um that it just not going to work for me, so now what to do?
I've decided that my first bakery marvel I'm going to try to make this new promising year is French Macarons. There is always a picture here or a picture there showcasing the beautiful colors they can come in or another brave soul who has attempted to make these lil cuties. I hope to be the next one.
Me circa August 2011 w/ my favorite Lime flavored macaron
I'm searching the internet for the perfect recipe and I have such high hopes for this project. I will also take a peek at what Martha Stewart has to bring to the table on this subject. Yes, I'm going to call learning how to make macarons a project because I've heard it is not definitely not easy. I'm hoping my new Kitchen Aid stand mixer will be able to help me out here as well. I will even take a peek at what Martha Stewart has to bring to the table on this subject. =)
Floating Bear Cupcakes I made for my Craig's Luau Family Party in 2012
I've always been the cupcake girl, making cupcakes for a friend's party here & there or small get together. I made those lil bears cupcakes up there and it was so much fun, but I want to branch out from my comfort zone. I want to give my friends & family options to choose. I conquered making peppermint meringues last month and now I want to push that envelope further.
Has anyone dared to try to make French Macarons??
If you have, do you have any tips for new beginner?
I'd love to hear!

OK so these recent posts are REALLY making me crave French Macroons! I wonder wherer I can find them here in KY? This calls for an investigation...
ReplyDeleteMy friend made those macarons (not macarOOns), and said it took 6 hours.
ReplyDeleteThe best ones in NY can be found at Laduree in NYC upper East side.
Good luck! I'd rather just buy them.
Oooo thank you mochiandmacarons!! I will change this post ASAP!! =)
ReplyDeleteMy fabulous friend Supal has a recipe for macarons on her blog, Chevrons & Eclairs. And it actually looks pretty do-able.

I've made macarons four times, and they've only been successful the first time. They were absolutely delicious the fourth time, too, but they just didn't look very nice. But, with each try, they have become better and better so I'm thinking that practice really is the key to macarons! And reading other's posts on them!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely didn't try but so glad for you! Can't wait to hear all about how this project goes for you!
ReplyDeleteI've never actually eaten one... (I know, I know, judge me as you will). They're such a fad now, and very, very pretty! I hope that you find the perfect recipe to make your own!
ReplyDeleteNewest follower here! I found you through the blog hop. Cute blog, I can't wait to read more!

ReplyDeleteOkay, if you find a good recipe, you have to post it! I have never ever tried macaroons, but they look so good! I really really need to try them!
ReplyDeleteHi there! I am so glad Joy told you about my recipe! I actually make them quite often. It really is all about practice. The more you make them, you will come up with your little tweaks and such. I think my favorite recipe is the rose ones I have on my blog. Let me know how you like them and don't hesitate to email me with any question :)
ReplyDeleteYour cupcakes are so cute!! I have never made macaroons but they are soooo good:)
ReplyDeleteI just learned to make macaroons and used this recipe/tutorial on Giverslog: http://www.giverslog.com/?p=1089
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely tedious work, but actually not as difficult as I thought. Or as time consuming.
I've attempted them twice and both times they came out really tasty, but not quite as perfect looking as when you buy them as the hardest part for me was piping the shells out and making them look uniform, but I think that'll get better with practice.
I def don't have the skills to make them...but I can certainly EAT THEM!! those cupcakes you made are also incredible btw!
ReplyDeleteah i'm jealous macaroons are my very favorite!!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I have never tried a macaroon?
ReplyDeletePractice makes perfect!
ReplyDeleteFrench macarons have been on my "learn to make" list for a few years now and I still haven't done it! This was a great reminder that I need to get on that. :) Can't wait to see what tips and tricks you learn through the process!
ReplyDeleteFunny things, macarons...they are quite elusive! I decided to have them be my "birthday cake" this year, however. My sister is ordering them online and they are arriving to me in Alaska on dry ice. Oh you cannot imagine how excited I am to have these little lovelies on my birthday! Good luck on your culinary endeavor!!
ReplyDeleteThey are so yummy , but as a lazy soul , I don't know any perf recipe . But I'd wait until you find one and bake some for us as well ;D

I've never tried to make macaroons (I've eaten my sure, though) so I don't have any tips to offer... But, as awesome as your cupcakes look - I have no doubt you will find a great recipe and be sharing pictures with us soon!
ReplyDeleteI've never even eaten a macaroon! Crazy, I know! My sister absolutely loves them though after her visit to Paris and she wants to try to make them too. I've only seen epic fails with macaroons so keep on trying if your first few batches don't work out! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog. ;-)

Macaroons are the best! I've yet to attempt them myself but one thing I keep hearing/reading is that you need to rest the macaroons for a while before baking them so that they get that shiny look and nice crunchy top. What flavour do you want to make? Salted caramel is my fave flavour- I can never get enough! :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the photos of your creations!
