Short Video Blog - Regional Dialect Survey! =)

Hey Everyone! I was reading blogs when I stumbled upon Arielle at Humble Pie Vintage. She did a regional dialect survey and I had to do it too! Please forgive that I said, Humble Vintage. It's Humble Pie Vintage. =) Oh and yes I sound like I'm from New Jersey but I'm actually a New Yorker. =)

Regional Dialect Meme:

Say these words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
Now answer these questions:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Please Enjoy!! =)

  3. i loved watching this! I call it a clicker, too. I live in the south, but my parents were from the north and midwest, so I speak a lot like you. many of my friends don't, though. for instance, a bubbly carbonated drink is always COKE down here :)

  5. This was cute!!! In all honesty, your accent is hardly noticeable. The only reason I detected it at all (only on a few words) is because I'm originally from Jersey (parents are from New York). You have a pretty voice and come across clear and confident! :)

  7. Loved it!! I love that accent. I don't hear it often here in KY obviously. I may do one of these but I am sure my readers would make fun of my southern drawl :)

  9. Oo, I have to take this too. The question that made me laugh out loud, "What is the thing you change the TV channel with?" My parents call it a "clicker" ?!? So funny to me. I call it a remote.

  10. I love this kind of thing. I group up in Texas and have been on the west coast ever since, so I always pick up on the differences because there are A LOT. I have stuck with most of my Texas speaking style, saying "y'all" when addressing more than one person and "Coke" for a Dr. Pepper or whatever. I definitely say pecan and New Orleans differently, gym shoes are "tennis shoes," the bug is called a "doodle bug" and throwing toilet paper is called "wrapping" a house. :)

I love that you clarified that you are from NY by the way, too funny!

Hope you have a great weekend!!

  11. I love your accent! haha I also like how you didn't want it to be confused with Jersey.
I'm so glad you did the meme too! I love hearing and seeing everybody come to life, so to speak.
